One more year is history !!
Well, what an incredible year this has been! We have seen "The Man" win his 2nd consecutive Track Championship at Southern Raceway, wow them at various tracks around the Southeast, and FINALLY get his shirts done! Last night (11/19/05) at Southern was the 10K to win for the late models. You all may remember last year, when they tried valiantly to beat the weather and still got rained out. Last night couldn't have been more perfect. Oh yes, it was COLD, but when the action really got started on that 100 lap race, I for one couldn't have cared less about the cold. Friday night Shep qualified 9th against such great names as Rodney Wing (who set fast time), Mike Boland, Scott Bloomquist, and many local greats such as Larry Boutwell, Stephen Brantley, Dewayne Morris, and many more. Lat night, the field ran heat races and Shep started 7th in a field of 27. They ran a few laps, caution, ran a few laps, caution, etc. until the field narrowed to 11. Some came back, and then left the track again, some were never to be seen again. Mike Boland took a commanding lead in the first few laps, with Rodney Wing, Scott Bloomquist, David Brezeale, and Shep at the top 5. I have rarely been more proud of Shep as he gave all the fans a great race to watch. For the first many laps, Shep even was ahead of Scott, as well as the rest of the field. Shep finished 5th last night, and to some I heard say that finally someone beat Shep at his home track. Do these people not realize what a 5th place finish is behind the other 4 men he was racing? I consider 5th a victory almost as big as the Track Championship. You may ask why I say that; well, consider the facts: Mike, Scott, Rodney, and the Rebel all do this FOR A LIVING!! They race at tracks all over this country, they have high dollar budgets that would probably support the whole "local" bunch that run late model at Southern, they participate in these events to win money sure, but many times, some of them are paid to be there in the first place. You also have to remember between these 4 men, they have accumulated 7 Mississippi State Championships, and 5 National 100 Championships. Shep goes out there with great equipment, great sponsors, and great friends, and puts his heart into every time he fires that car. I know for a fact, Shep fills his own gas tank, works on his own car, loads his own car, etc. all the while talking to fans, friends and family with a fantastic personality. I'm not trying to take away anything from these "big guns" that come in and I do thank them for helping to make last night an incredible race, and for Southern Raceway for promoting that event, I just want you all to know what kind of race car driver Shep is. Congratulations on a great night Shep, and a great year we love you.

My interest in racing began in 2000, when my then boyfriend, now husband - Billy, took me to my first dirt race at Butler County Motorsports park in Greenville, Alabama. He did not race his car that night out of deference to me, but let his brother, Lester drive so I wouldn't be frightened. The next week he drove, won his heat and I was hooked for sure!

I met Shep shortly after that, and then I met his Mama Mrs. Elaine, Mr. Dwight and his wife Christal. I quickly became friends with them and have valued that friendship immensly these last few years.

Billy, Sami (our daughter) and I have alot of faith in Shep Lucas, but our heart, as well as his, lies with Jesus Christ. If you do not know the Lord, please email me and one of us will contact you. God Bless You and thank you for visiting. Jenni
